Harrisburg, PA – This week, Governor Josh Shapiro delivered his 2025-26 budget address to the General Assembly on Tuesday, outlining a commonsense plan that builds on two years of progress, continues to solve problems, and paves the way for a stronger, more competitive Pennsylvania. The Governor’s proposed budget places a special emphasis on workforce development; reduces health care, housing, and energy costs; invests in economic development and public safety; and continues bipartisan efforts to support Pennsylvania students — all while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
Governor Shapiro’s 2025-26 budget proposal has earned strong support from lawmakers and leaders, as well as from Pennsylvanians, all across the Commonwealth:
“With this funding, we can offer better wages, professional development, and the support our educators need to stay in the field and continue making a difference.”
“We know that the Governor will have to work with the legislature to make it all work, but as health care providers, we’re hopeful that the budget will provide the necessary assistance to care for those in need.”
“Governor Shapiro’s budget addresses this by investing in the recruitment of more officers, ensuring we have the resources necessary to keep our communities safe.”
“This funding will ensure teachers have the support they need to make a real difference in the classroom.”
“Today’s budget proposal is a very solid plan to deliver critical growth, freedom, and opportunity to every Pennsylvanian.”
“This budget is a testament to Governor Shapiro’s commitment to hardworking Pennsylvanians.”
“I applaud the comprehensive budget that Governor Shapiro proposed today; it is committed to lowering costs for families by investing in critical priorities across our state.”
“Once again, Governor Shapiro has delivered a commonsense budget proposal that builds on our accomplishments over the past two years to ensure fairness in funding our schools, cut costs for working families, grow our economy and workforce, and strengthen our communities.”
On Wednesday, Governor Shapiro participated in interviews with news outlets in all six Pennsylvania media markets, ensuring Pennsylvanians were able to hear him answer questions and speak directly about the details of his budget and how it will benefit their communities. Editorial boards of major newspapers also praised the Governor’s budget proposal, writing that his plan is “welcome and needed” with “long overdue” investments included as part of it.
On Thursday, Governor Shapiro visited a childcare center to highlight his proposed workforce development initiatives and investments in childcare workers. Over the past two years, the Governor has worked to make childcare more affordable — this year’s budget proposal builds on that progress to make childcare more available for Pennsylvania families.
With strong bipartisan support for Governor Shapiro’s budget proposals, the Governor and his Administration are now focused on working with the General Assembly to pass a budget that delivers for Pennsylvanians.
