West Mifflin, PA – With demolition and remediation work underway at the former Century III Mall in West Mifflin, Lt. Gov. Austin Davis joined state and local leaders today to celebrate a $1 million investment from the Shapiro-Davis Administration to continue that work and transform this site into a sustainable economic generator for Allegheny County.
“So many of us who grew up in the area remember going to the Century III Mall over the years – it was truly a gem,” said Davis. “I’m excited to see what the future brings for this site and proud that the state has invested $1 million in funding to keep the project moving forward.”
The Century III Mall project is receiving a $1 million RACP grant to reimburse hard costs and leverage additional private investments to prepare the site for redevelopment. The grant will help retain five local construction jobs and create 150 new ones in the future mixed-use development.
“I’m excited so see the state step up and help assist with the rehabilitation of Century III Mall,” said state Sen.-elect Nick Pisciottano. “This is only the first step in the ultimate goal of returning this property to the tax rolls as a community asset. Folks in this area have been waiting a long time for this, and I’m happy we could get this done with our partners in the Shapiro-Davis Administration and local government.”
"This transformation isn’t just about the physical demolition of the mall, it’s about creating an asset that serves everyone across this region," said Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato. "This site will be an economic development generator, bringing a mix of commercial spaces, residences, and public amenities that reflect the needs of this community."
RACP, administered by the Office of the Budget, is a reimbursement grant program that supports essential design, acquisition and construction projects across the Commonwealth. The program funds projects with regional or multi-jurisdictional impact, promoting economic growth, creating jobs, increasing tax revenue and contributing to vibrant, resilient communities.
A full list of projects from the latest round of grants is available on RACP’s website.
As part of the Shapiro-Davis Administration’s commitment to making government operate at the speed of business, the Budget Office updated and streamlined the RACP application process for the first time in nearly a decade – creating an easier-to-use website, reducing the number of sections in the applications and enabling applicants to access a new e-grants system.
