The Pennsylvania Design Standards (PDS) are a system for designing and building public websites, applications, and digital services for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The PDS system serves as the main design resource for designers, developers, product managers, and others who work on digital projects. The PDS system outlines a set of best practices to govern the design of digital assets, ensuring a consistent look and feel. These standards apply to all agencies under the Governor’s jurisdiction. The PDS system grew out of Governor Tom Wolf’s
Customer Service Transformation initiative, which endeavors to provide “easy-to-use services and support online, by phone, in person, and through other emerging technologies.” Foremost, the PDS system aligns with two goals of this initiative: create a seamless online experience and impose standards for quality and functionality. Overall, the PDS helps design and build better online experiences for Commonwealth citizens.
