Data and Reporting

Pennsylvania Information Management System (PIMS)

The Pennsylvania Department of Education's (PDE) statewide longitudinal data system is improving data capabilities by enhancing school districts' capacities to meet student-level data reporting requirements and provide robust decision support tools. PIMS is based on open internet standards that enable sharing among diverse, otherwise incompatible systems and includes safeguards for data quality and security.

In the fall of 2018, PDE released the Future Ready PA Index a comprehensive progress report that provides parents and community members with easy-to-understand information about Pennsylvania schools and student success. At the end of 2019, PDE will report additional state, local education agency (LEA), school, and student group-level data via the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) State Report Card.

New PIMS Administrator Checklist

It is recommended that new PIMS Administrators review the following documentation and resources, in the order listed, to familiarize themselves with PIMS and data reporting guidance. The resources provided will assist in getting you started. A complete list of resources can be found on the PIMS Website.

Data Quality Network (DQN)

We are education professionals working and learning together to optimize the governance, quality, and application of data in order to improve the delivery of educational opportunities to students across the Commonwealth.

Data Quality Curriculum (DQC)

he DQC is a tool for local education agencies (LEAs) to increase the quality of data submitted to the PDE, thereby reducing costly data errors and staff time. This is a voluntary program, including self-paced activities and assessments, webinars, and tutorials.

PIMS Application Support

PIMS Application Support provides technical assistance to LEAs using the PIMS, PIMS Sandbox, PIMS Reports, and PAsecureID applications within MyPDE Suite. PIMS Support can assist users with the upload process and reviewing errors received in the PIMS and Sandbox applications. PIMS Support also includes how to run and review reports to verify the data that was submitted.

If you have a question that is not answered in the PIMS Manuals or How-To Guides, click the Help Request Form link above to submit a help request incident to the PIMS Application Support. Policy questions about the data submitted to PIMS should be directed to the appropriate department at PDE.
