Project Overview
County: Lancaster
State Route: 2024-008
Local Name: Weaver Road Stream Relocation Project
Project Type: Stream Relocation/Erosion Repair
Last Updated: November 8
Proposed Start Month: Spring 2026
Proposed End Month: Fall 2026
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to view the online plans display for the Route 2024 (Weaver Road) Stream Relocation Project in Strasburg Township, Lancaster County. Current conditions include an existing watercourse which extends along the northern roadway shoulder. During rain events the stream frequently overtops its banks resulting in localized flooding and erosion The purpose of the project is to provide a sustainable travel way by reducing roadway flooding and the reduction of more frequent repairs to correct roadway erosion.
The project involves the relocation of the existing watercourse to its former pastoral alignment located a sufficient distance to the north of the existing roadway. Two existing drainage features, a 24” pipe and 30” pipe, will be replaced with a single 48”x76” elliptical pipe to safely convey the peak stormwater flow and reduce sediment accumulation. The roadway profile will be adjusted to provide sufficient cover over the new pipe and improve surface water runoff. The roadway will additionally involve a full depth pavement removal and replacement. The road will be closed for approximately 3 months to all traffic while the road is being reconstructed. The proposed 2.3-mile detour uses Route 2024 to Route 2015 (May Post Office Road) to Township Road T-466 (Sawmill Road).
The project is currently in design and construction work is expected to take place in the 2026 construction season.
A digital version of the information will be available to view online from November 8, 2024 to December 8, 2024.
