Research & Statistics

The Office of Commonwealth Libraries collects, edits and disseminates statistical information on public libraries in the state. This information is shared with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and is part of a national effort to collect library data.

Public Library Statistics

  • Academic Libraries​: 2010 First Look: Published by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), Academic Libraries: 2010 First Look summarizes services, staff, collections, and expenditures of academic libraries in 2- and 4-year, degree-granting postsecondary institutions in the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

  • Library Statistics Program - Academic Libraries: The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) collects data biennially from about 3,700 degree-granting postsecondary institutions in order to provide an overview of academic libraries nationwide and by state.

  • Common Core of Data ​(CCD): The Common Core of Data (CCD) is a program of the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics that annually collects fiscal and non-fiscal data about all public schools, public school districts and state education agencies in the United States.
  • Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS): The SASS survey system collects data on teacher demand and shortage, teacher and administrator characteristics, school programs, and general conditions in schools.
