Free PTRR Filing Assistance Available at Senior & Community Centers Across PA

Following Governor Josh Shapiro’s successful expansion of the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program, the Department of Revenue is once again providing in-person filing assistance across the Commonwealth

Harrisburg, PA — Representatives from the Department of Revenue (DOR) are once again traveling to senior and community centers across the Commonwealth to offer in-person filing assistance for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate (PTRR) program.

Following a historic expansion of the PTRR program supported by Governor Josh Shapiro, the PTRR program last year delivered more than 522,000 rebates totaling $319 million to eligible Pennsylvanians. This included roughly 106,000 first-time filers who received a rebate for the very first time.

Eligible applicants are required to submit a new application every year, as rebates are based on annual income and property taxes or rent paid during the prior year. This is a key reason why DOR employees are again hitting the road to provide assistance directly in communities across the Commonwealth. DOR employees will also be offering in-person filing support for Pennsylvania personal income tax returns (PA-40s).

"We received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from the on-site visits that we made last year. In fact, we held nearly 300 events across the Commonwealth to support the older Pennsylvanians and people with disabilities who benefit from the PTRR program," said Revenue Secretary Pat Browne. "We’re looking to keep the momentum going this year and reach as many eligible Pennsylvanians as possible. Whether it’s for rebate assistance or help with your state tax return, our staff is ready to provide support.”

A complete listing of events by county is available online on the Department of Revenue website. Customers are encouraged to call their preferred location ahead of time to verify availability and make an appointment. Keep in mind that the online list will be updated frequently as more events are added, meaning eligible Pennsylvanians are encouraged to check the website for the most current schedule.

PTRR Community Outreach Initiative

The Department of Revenue (DOR) has been visiting senior and community centers for several years to supplement the other options available for in-person PTRR filing assistance. As Governor Shapiro has said, there should be no wrong door for eligible Pennsylvanians to find the help they need to benefit from this vital program.

Assistance is also available at Department of Revenue district offices, local Area Agencies on Aging, senior centers, and state legislators' offices. Applicants should remember that it's free to apply for a rebate.

What Should You Bring with You?

Applicants who need assistance with the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program application (PA-1000) should check the eligibility guidelines on the PTRR Program. Spanish resources are also available to help eligible applicants apply for a rebate. The rebate program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with disabilities age 18 and older.

Taxpayers who need assistance with the Pennsylvania personal income tax return (PA-40) should bring their tax information/income statements, a photo identification card (driver's license, etc.), and Social Security cards for themselves and their dependents. As a reminder, all taxpayers who received more than $33 in total gross taxable income in calendar year 2024 must file a Pennsylvania personal income tax return by midnight, Monday, April 15, 2025.
