Philadelphia County Delaware Valley Veterans' Home Follow the path of small American flags right up to the front door of the Delaware Valley Veterans’ Home (DVVH) and walk right into the perfect home for any veteran looking to stay connected to their military roots. Located in northeast Philadelphia, adjacent to the 275-acre Benjamin Rush State Park and directly across the street from the PA National Guard’s Southampton Armory, DVVH showcases a patriotic theme inside and out. Yet flags, murals and displays are not the only way our residents are honored. -
Lackawanna County Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center Named after a WWII hero from northeastern Pennsylvania who received the Medal of Honor, the Gino J. Merli Veterans’ Center (GMVC), located in downtown Scranton, exudes patriotism inside and out. Visitors to GMVC are greeted by statues depicting the five branches of the Armed Forces. Not far from the statues rests the Carol Ann Drazba Memorial, a tribute to one of eight nurses killed during the Vietnam War. The memorial is a perpetual reminder that Gino Merli never forgets those from Pennsylvania who served and sacrificed. Inside, current residents are honored every day, through the Wall of Honor display, an exhibit of photos depicting residents in their military uniforms while serving our country. The nearby Tags of Freedom display also serves as a lasting reminder of the men and women who once called GMVC their home. -
Blair County Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home Located near Altoona in Duncansville, the Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home (HVH) is the largest of six veterans homes in the commonwealth. The home rests on 326 acres located along the main Allegheny Mountain ridge, providing a domain that is easily accessible by family and friends, yet offers enough isolation that our residents can enjoy tranquil, scenic living. -
Erie County Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' Home The Pennsylvania Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home (PSSH) in Erie is the oldest of the six veterans homes, having served as an important historic marker throughout Erie County since it opened in 1886. The home rests on 26 acres overlooking beautiful Lake Erie, but you can’t walk far before coming across a symbol of the lives sacrificed and freedoms fought for. Whether it is the Major General "Mad Anthony" Wayne Blockhouse, Avenue of Flags depicting each of the five military branches or the landmark Civil War cannon, anyone visiting the home is reminded that American heroes have made the PSSH their home for more than a century. -
Chester County Southeastern Veterans' Center Situated along the Schuylkill River in Spring City, the Southeastern Veterans’ Center (SEVC) provides peaceful, scenic living, while only 45 minutes from downtown Philadelphia. Dozens of American flags line both sides of the drive leading up to the entrance of the SEVC, culminating with even more flags representing each branch of military service. The patriotic theme of our home continues throughout the inside of the building with military artwork and displays, reminding every resident that they are celebrated every day for their service and sacrifice. -
Allegheny County Southwestern Veterans' Center Situated less than 10 miles from downtown Pittsburgh, the Southwestern Veterans’ Center (SWVC) is far enough from the city that residents can enjoy a quiet, tranquil living, but is only a short drive away from all the history, culture and entertainment a large city has to offer. Before ever setting foot into the home visitors are greeted with by an island of American flags prominently flying high at the main entrance as if they are waving and welcoming veterans and their families. The patriotic feel continues throughout the inside of the home, highlighted by a hallway lined by military photos and a Purple Heart mural in the activities room that reminds everyone that heroes live here.
