There are more than 700,000 veterans living in Pennsylvania and the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) wants to see that every one of them receives a proper military burial when that time comes.

Instrumental in this process is the assistance from county veteran service officers or local veterans organizations that serve on the State Veterans’ Commission

These individuals and organizations can walk veterans and their families through their burial benefits, while helping to plan and arrange for military burial honors. This extremely helpful assistance often reduces the stress of coordinating a burial, while assuring veterans are properly honored for their service to our nation.  The DMVA provides a stipend to veterans organizations that provide burial honors at one of Pennsylvania’s three national cemeteries: Indiantown Gap National Cemetery; National Cemetery of the Alleghenies; and Washington Crossing National Cemetery.

If any veterans organization is interested in providing burial honors at one of the three national cemeteries, please contact the DMVA Office of Veterans Affairs for further details regarding the Burial Honors Program. Burial benefits at one of Pennsylvania’s national cemeteries are available to eligible veterans and include a gravesite, a government headstone, a flag and a Presidential Memorial Certificate. Family members should contact a funeral director or their County Director of Veterans Affairs to learn about burial at one of these cemeteries.
