Hangliding

What better way to see the beauty of Pennsylvania than from high above? For thrill-seekers, these hang gliding sites offer great opportunities to soar high above the trees.

Buchanan State Forest

Two hang gliding launch sites are located in the Buchanan State Forest.

Hyner View State Park

Hang gliders take off from the ramp at the Hyner View State Park scenic vista and sail out over the West Branch of the Susquehanna River.

The only club with authorization to the launch—and who maintain the launch—is the Hyner Hang Gliding Club.

DCNR authorization is required before participating in hang gliding. Contact the park office for more information about the process.

Weiser State Forest

A hang gliding launch area is available on the Haldeman tract of Weiser State Forest in Dauphin County.

The site is open only to current members of the U.S. Hang Gliding Association displaying a current helmet sticker for the launch site issued by the Hyner Hang Gliding Club.

This area also serves as a vista overlooking the scenic Susquehanna Valley.
