    ​The rugged, forested slopes of Sproul State Forest are home to Pennsylvania big game species including black bear, whitetail deer, and wild turkey. The state bird, the ruffed grouse, is also found here. All state forest land, except for a few safety zones around buildings and picnic areas, is open for public hunting.
