This project is to rehabilitate the bridge that carries Route 59 over Kinzua Creek (Allegheny Reservoir) in Mead Township, Warren County.

The bridge is located on Route 59 (Kinzua Drive) within the Allegheny National Forest between the intersection with the Route 6 and the intersection with Route 321.

This bridge rehabilitation project will involve structural steel repairs to the truss members, concrete repairs to the bridge piers and abutments, bearing replacements, and replacement of a navigational lighting system.

Work is expected to start May 20, 2024 and to be and is expected to be completed in late fall 2025.

The contractor is L.C. Whitford Company Inc. of Wellsville, NY. The contract cost is $6,082,432, which is to be paid entirely with federal funds.

Traffic Impacts

One lane on the bridge will remain closed across a portion of the bridge throughout the duration of the work. Traffic is being controlled by temporary signals.

There will also be two 48-hour period detours that will take place sometime after Labor Day. The detour will be posted using Route 6 and Route 321 (Kane-Marshburg Road). Notification of the detour periods will be given through message boards near the work site and an announcement from the PennDOT press office.

An Aids to Navigation Plan has been coordinated with the PA Fish and Boat Commission and temporary signs for boating traffic along the channel will be posted during construction.
