Project Overview

County: Carbon
Municipality: Mahoning Township
State Route: 3005
Local Name: Country Club Road
Project Type: Bridge Replacement
MPMS Number: 11013
Proposed Construction Start: Late 2025
Proposed Construction End: Early 2026
Last Updated: September 2025

The purpose of the project is to maintain a safe crossing of Mahoning Creek on SR 3005 in Mahoning Township that meets current design criteria. The project is needed due to the existing bridge being in poor condition which is governed by the substructure rating. This project is located on SR 3005 Country Club Road in Mahoning Township, Carbon County approximately 4.5 miles West of Lehighton.

The existing structure over the creek is a two-span concrete encased I-beam bridge on full height concrete abutments. The existing two-span bridge will be removed in its entirety and replaced with a single-span structure. The proposed replacement will provide a safe and reliable vehicle crossing for two-lane traffic. The structure will carry two 9’-0” lanes with two 2’-0” minimum variable width shoulders. Sidewalks are not present on the existing structure and are not proposed for the replacement structure. Horizontal alignment for SR 3005 will match the existing horizontal curve. The project will be constructed using a relatively short detour.
