Project Overview

County: Northampton
Municipality: Lower Saucon Township
State Route: 2006
Local Name: Easton Road
Project Type: Bridge Replacement
MPMS Number: 93631
Proposed Construction Start: Spring 2028
Proposed Construction End: Fall 2028
Last Updated: March 2026

This project is being designed to replace the bridge carrying SR 2006 (Easton Road) over the East Branch of Saucon Creek in Lower Saucon Township, Northampton County.
The existing bridge, constructed in 1956, is single span, 34-foot long rolled steel I-beam bridge with an open grate steel deck with a curb-to-curb width of 32’. The bridge is at or near the end of its design life. Additionally, the bridge is unable to accommodate wide-turning vehicles from Ringhoffer Road, which intersects SR 2006 just east of East Branch Saucon Creek.
The proposed bridge will be a single-cell precast concrete box culvert. The channel will be regraded and the skew of the proposed structure will be reduced to from 60 degrees to 75.23 degrees (relative to the baseline) to improve the alignment of the structure with the stream. The proposed bridge width will be 42'-1 3/8" (out to out) and consist of two 12' travel lanes. Sidewalks and bike lanes will not be provided. The cross slopes will be 2% for both the roadway approach and the bridge deck, except for tie-ins to existing grade near the project limits.
Other work includes approach roadway, guide rail upgrades, and pavement marking upgrades. The acquisition of right-of-way and temporary construction easements will be required to complete the work.
Easton Road is primarily a two-lane undivided roadway with a posted speed limit of 45 mph and currently has an average daily traffic volume of 5,140 vehicles.
Detour Information
The project will be constructed under a detour. The length of the detour is 7.5 miles. Access to driveways within the project limits will be maintained during construction.
