Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV) represent the forefront of modern transportation technology, combining the advancements of automation and connectivity to enhance road safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
Automated Vehicles (AVs) are equipped with systems capable of performing driving tasks independently, relying on an array of sensors, cameras, and algorithms to navigate, detect obstacles, and make real-time decisions without human intervention. The progression towards fully automated driving aims to reduce traffic incidents, optimize traffic flow, and provide greater accessibility to all road users.
Connected Vehicles (CVs) utilize communication technologies to interact with each other, as well as with road infrastructure and central systems. This exchange of information—such as traffic conditions, road hazards, and weather updates—allows for more informed decision-making and better coordination on the road, thereby enhancing overall traffic safety and efficiency. CV’s are not autonomous, and require a human driver at all times.
This page details the initiatives undertaken to integrate AV and CV technologies within our state's transportation network, highlighting our commitment to driving innovation and ensuring a safer, smarter, and more connected future.
