Interstate 83 - East Shore Section 3

This project is part of the I-83 Capital Beltway Project. The Harrisburg Capital Beltway encircles the City of Harrisburg, which is the State Capital of Pennsylvania, and surrounding municipalities. The Beltway includes a section of Interstate 81 (I-81), a section of Interstate 83 (I-83), and Route 581, and is a limited-access facility. The Capital Beltway is vital to the economy of the Harrisburg region, and is an important hub in the transportation network of the northeastern United States.

The I-83 East Shore Section 3 project is located west of the Eisenhower Interchange near 29th Street to Cameron Street. The proposed improvements include widening the mainline I-83 corridor to three mainline lanes in each direction with additional lanes providing access to upgraded interchanges via a collector-distributor roadway. A new interchange will be constructed at Cameron Street.

Past Public Outreach

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) in coordination with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) held the I-83 East Shore Section 2 and East Shore Section 3 Open House Public Plans Display on October 18, 2018.
