Project Overview

County: Dauphin
Municipality: Swatara Township and Paxtang Borough
State Route: Route 3012, Section 037
Local Name: Derry Street over Spring Creek
Project Type: Bridge Rehabilitation
Proposed Construction Start: Spring 2027
Proposed Construction End: Fall 2028
Last Updated: March 2025

The proposed project will rehabilitate a bridge over Spring Creek in a two lane, two-way section of Derry Street. This will include replacing bridge beams, the bridge deck, repairing the northeast wing wall and rehabilitating the abutments. The bridge will be constructed in half widths while maintaining bi-directional traffic. Truck traffic will be detoured due to narrow lanes. During removal and installation of the bridge beams, up to four weekend full closures will occur. Signing, pavement markings, and minor drainage may be updated. Additionally, there will be some traffic calming enacted to slow traffic during construction.

Additional Project Information

The project is currently in design, and construction work is expected to take place in the 2027 and 2028 construction seasons. The duration of construction is anticipated to last 12 to 18 months. A digital version of the project plans and information will be available to view online from approximately March 21, 2025, through April 22, 2025. The hard copy plans will also be available for review at the Swatara Township and Paxtang Borough Municipal Buildings in the same timeframe.
