Why Test for COVID-19?
COVID-19 is still circulating and making people sick, and we need to stay diligent in preventing spread to others. COVID-19 testing can help you know if you have COVID-19 so you can decide what to do next, like getting treatment and taking steps to lower your chances of spreading the virus.
How Can I Get a COVID-19 Test?
- IMPORTANT! As of late September 2024, U.S. households can order 4 free COVID-19 tests through COVID Home Tests | USPS. These tests will detect current COVID-19 variants.
- If you need more at-home tests, or need one right away, you can purchase them at pharmacies or retail stores.
- If you have health insurance, they may reimburse the cost of purchasing self-tests.
- If you are more seriously ill, visit your health care provider.
- If cost is an issue:
- Use the COVID-19 testing locator to find low-or no-cost PCR or antigen testing through local pharmacies and labs.
- You can check what testing resources your local health department has available by calling 1-877-PA-HEALTH (1-877-724-3258).
- If you have additional testing questions, please email ra-dhk12covidtest@pa.gov.
What Should I do if I Test Positive for COVID?
- A positive COVID-19 test means the virus was detected and you have or recently had an infection.
- Take steps to prevent spreading COVID-19.
- Discuss treatment with your provider if you are over 65 or have conditions that put you at risk for severe illness.
- If any emergency warning signs arise, seek care immediately.
