Project Overview
County: Bucks
State Route(s): Route 2049, Route 2010, Route 2033
Local Name(s): Langhorne-Yardley Road, Bridgetown Pike, Woodbourne Road
Project Type: Intersection Improvements
In conjunction with Middletown Township, the Department will be advancing the Langhorne-Yardley Road Intersection Improvements Project in Middletown Township, Bucks County. The Project is focused around improvements to two signalized intersections along Langhorne-Yardley Road:
- For the intersection of Langhorne-Yardley Road (SR 2049) & Bridgetown Pike (SR 2010), the existing signalized T-intersection will be replaced by a single-lane roundabout. The proposed roundabout will eliminate the existing skewed angle of intersection, and will help decrease vehicular speeds through this intersection while improving safety and operations.
- For the intersection of Langhorne-Yardley Road (SR 2049) & Woodbourne Road (SR 2033), the northern leg of Woodbourne Road will be reconstructed to improve the alignment at the intersection, auxiliary turn lanes will be constructed on all four approaches, and the traffic signal equipment will be completely replaced and modernized. The widening of the eastern leg of this intersection will also provide for a left turn lane on Langhorne-Yardley Road approaching Erica Drive.
- The intersection approaches and the segment of Langhorne-Yardley Road between the two intersections will be upgraded to provide consistency in terms of lane alignments, lane widths, and shoulder widths.
This Project will provide enhanced accommodations for pedestrians and bicyclists. Five-foot-wide paved shoulders will better accommodate bicyclists. There will be pedestrian accommodations at the roundabout and the signalized intersection, and new paved paths along Bridgetown Pike and Woodbourne Road to connect these intersections to the Core Creek Park driveways. Sidewalks will be constructed along the southern side of Langhorne-Yardley Road between Woodbourne Road and Briggs Road. Two existing pedestrian crossings will be enhanced through installations of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs): the pedestrian crossing of Langhorne-Yardley Road just east of Briggs Road, and the pedestrian crossing of Woodbourne Road just south of its intersection with the aligned driveways for Core Creek Park and Maple Point Middle School.
The Project also will provide re-paving, new pavement markings, new signs, and stormwater management within the project limits.
Fall 2024 Update
Roadway construction including stormwater drainage and new pavement is anticipated to continue through Fall 2024 at the Bridgetown Pike roundabout approach to Langhorne-Yardley Road as well as roadway construction at the re-aligned portion of Woodbourne Road north of Langhorne-Yardley Road.
PECO Electric will also be performing its utility relocation throughout the project which will be followed by the remaining aerial utility transfers.
