Project Overview
County: Washington
Municipality: City of Washington
State Route: 2001 and 18
Local Name: South Main Street and Park Avenue
Project Type: Bridge Replacement
Proposed Construction Start: Spring 2026
Proposed Construction End: Fall 2026
Last Updated: 12/10/2024
This project is the replacement of the existing bridge carrying both Route 2001 (South Main Street) and Route 18 (Park Avenue) over Catfish Creek in the City of Washington, Washington County. The scope of work involves removal of the existing 12’ long single span bridge and construction of a 14’ x 5’ concrete box culvert with approximately 100 feet of roadway approach reconstruction in each direction.
Originally built in 1928, the existing bridge is at the end of its’ useful service life and replacement is the most cost-effective solution to provide a safe and reliable crossing for all modes of transportation as well as maintain local and regional connectivity. The new culvert will be replaced in the same location as the existing bridge without any change to the intersection configuration. The lanes, shoulders, and sidewalks as well as operation of the traffic signal disturbed to accommodate construction will be restored to existing condition.
The work will be completed in phases and traffic is anticipated to be maintained on Route 18 during the majority of construction, except for an approximately 3-week detour to construct the section of culvert under that leg of the intersection. After Route 18 is reopened to traffic, the detour on Route 2001 will be in effect for approximately 20 weeks.
The project is tentatively scheduled for letting in July of 2025 and is anticipated to be under construction a total of 8 months, beginning in Spring 2026 and ending in Fall 2026.
