    School Safety and Security Committee

    In 2018, Article XIII-B (School Safety and Security) of the Pennsylvania Public School Code of 1949 created the School Safety and Security Committee (SSSC) within PCCD to help make schools safer places within this Commonwealth. Later amendments to Article XIII-B, including Act 18 of 2019, Act 67 of 2019, Act 30 of 2020, Act 55 of 2022, and Act 33 of 2023 created additional responsibilities for the SSSC. Information about the various programs and grants the SSSC administers can be found below.

    Acts 44 and Acts 47 of 2025 - School Safety and Security School Code Updates

    On December 10, 2025, the following materials highlighting school-safety related updates to the PA Public School Code from Acts 44 and 47 of 2025 were presented to the School Safety and Security Committee. The changes to the law include notification requirements regarding possession of weapons on school property, funding for school safety and mental health grant programs, new requirements for School Safety and Security Coordinators, updates to the Memorandum of Understanding, School Security Personnel Training revisions, and updates to threat assessment team provisions and the Safe2Say Something program.

    2024-2025 School Mental Health Aggregate Data

    On December 10, 2025, the following aggregate data related to school mental health was approved for release by the School Safety and Security Committee. The information linked below includes aggregate mental health data submitted by school entities through their 24-25 school safety and security surveys and grant applications, and is deisgned to assist school leaders, legislators and community organizations in considering future student mental health needs and supports.
