Temperature Variances
- October 15, 2024
On October 15, 2024, Brunner documented a greater than -20 degree Fahrenheit change in temperature, in a one-hour period, in its discharge channel to the Susquehanna River. The change in temperature occurred when Unit 1 tripped. Initial investigation by Brunner revealed no evidence of impact to fish. DEP responded to the site and documented no impacts to aquatic life. Brunner will submit a follow-up incident report to the Department within 10 days. - April 8, 2024
On April 8th, 2024, Brunner documented a -14.26 degree Fahrenheit change in temperature, in a one hour period, in its discharge channel to the Susquehanna River. The change in temperature occurred when Unit 3 tripped. Initial investigation by Brunner revealed no evidence of impact to fish. Brunner will submit a follow-up incident report to the Department within 10 days. - February 29, 2024

On February 29th, 2024, Brunner documented a -10.67 degree Fahrenheit change in temperature, in a one hour period, in its discharge channel to the Susquehanna River. Change in temperature occurred during the shutdown process and initial investigation by Brunner revealed no evidence of impact to fish. Brunner will submit a follow-up incident report within 10 days. - December 23, 2022
On December 23, 2022, Brunner documented a 19.1-degree Fahrenheit change in temperature, in a one hour period, in its discharge channel to the Susquehanna River. The change in temperature occurred when Unit 2 tripped. Initial investigation by Brunner revealed no evidence of impact to fish and a follow-up investigation, by their consultant, documented one dead Bluegill. Brunner will submit a follow-up incident report to the Department within 10 days. - October 29, 2022
On October 29, 2022, Brunner reported a 7-degree change in temperature, in a one hour period, in its discharge channel to the Susquehanna River. Change in temperature occurred during the shutdown process and initial investigation by Brunner revealed no evidence of impact to fish. On October 26, 2022, Brunner Island reported that two units shutdown due to a mechanical failure which caused a 16-degree change in temperature, in a one hour period, in its discharge channel to the Susquehanna River. Initial investigation by Brunner revealed no evidence of impact to fish. The DEP also conducted a site inspection and requested a follow-up incident report be submitted. - April 7, 2022
On April 7, 2022, Brunner Island reported a unit shutdown which caused a 6-degree Fahrenheit change of temperature (during a one-hour period) in its discharge channel to the Susquehanna River. Initial investigation by Brunner revealed no evidence of impact to fish. Brunner will conduct additional investigations and submit a report on the incident to the DEP within 10 business days. - April 4, 2022
On April 4, 2022, Brunner Island reported a unit shutdown due to an emergency repair which caused a 6-degree Fahrenheit change of temperature (during a one-hour period) in its discharge channel to the Susquehanna River. Initial investigation by Brunner revealed no evidence of impact to fish. Brunner will conduct additional investigations and submit a report on the incident to the DEP within 10 business days. - February 16, 2022
On February 16, 2022, Brunner Island reported a 9-degree Fahrenheit change of temperature (during a one-hour period) in its discharge channel to the Susquehanna River during a unit shutdown. Initial investigation by Brunner revealed no evidence of impact to fish. Brunner will conduct additional investigations and submit a report on the incident to the DEP within 10 business days of the initial notification. - January 15 & 17, 2022
On January 17, 2022, Brunner Island reported two unexpected unit shutdowns which caused 6-degree Fahrenheit changes of temperature (during a one-hour period) in its discharge channel to the Susquehanna River. The first temperature exceedance occurred on January 15, 2022 between 19:59 and 21:00 hours. The second temperature exceedance occurred on January 17, 2022 between 05:49 and 05:52 hours. Initial investigation by Brunner revealed no evidence of impact to fish. Brunner will conduct additional investigations and submit a report on the incidents to the DEP within 10 business days of the initial notification. - May 4, 2021
