The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to a virtual plans display for Route 6, Section P01, over Norfolk Southern Railroad in Clarks Summit Borough, Lackawanna County.
The proposed alternative is to repair the existing bridge and includes concrete deck repair with the application of an epoxy overlay to the bridge deck/sidewalk, substructure concrete repairs, bridge cleaning, spot painting of steel beams, and refacing concrete retaining walls adjacent to the bridge. Roadway improvements associated with the project include the repair of the protective fence adjacent to the sidewalk crossing the bridge and minor pavement grade adjustments to accommodate the new bridge overlay. No changes to existing guide rail/bridge barriers are anticipated and utility relocations will not be necessary to construct the project.
Historical or cultural resources present within the project site include the eligible Norfolk Southern Railroad and Trolley Trail, both of which will be treated as 4(f) resources on this project. There are no wetlands present within the project limits and no other environmentally sensitive resources will be affected.
The deck repairs and overlay application is expected to be constructed in three stages while always maintaining two lanes of vehicular traffic. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained at all times during construction and will be protected on the bridge deck during the application of the overlay on the sidewalk. Access to adjacent driveways and intersections will be maintained throughout the project.
The project is currently in design and is planned to be let in Summer 2024. Construction work is anticipated to be completed by end of summer of 2025.
