Project to Repair Interstate 79 and Interstate 80 in Mercer County Underway

Drivers Should be Alert for Lane Restrictions, Traffic Pattern Shifts

A $3.2 million project to repair portions of Interstate 79 and Interstate 80 in Mercer County restarted today.

The project includes 26 miles of Interstate 79 in both northbound and southbound directions in Mercer County from the Crawford County line to the Lawrence County line, and 9 miles of Interstate 80 in both eastbound and westbound directions in Mercer County from the Venango County line to the Butler County line.

Work on the interstates, which started in 2024, will be done as needed and will include milling and paving, concrete patching, and new pavement markings. Minor repairs will also be done on 10 bridges.

Construction restarted on April 14, 2025, weather permitting, and to be completed in August 2025.

Lane restrictions will be needed to complete the repairs. Drivers should be alert for traffic pattern shifts and anticipate travel delays during active work hours.

The contractor is Glenn O. Hawbaker of State College, PA. The contract cost is $3,198,198, which is to be paid entirely with federal funds.
