PennDOT, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), is advancing the I-376, Section A76 Squirrel Hill Interchange Improvement Project in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The project begins on the Parkway East (I-376) just west of the Greenfield Bridge overpass and continues eastward to the entrance to the Squirrel Hill Tunnel. The scope of work includes the redesign of the Squirrel Hill Interchange and improvements to Forward Avenue south of Murray Avenue, and Beechwood Boulevard from Ronald Street to Monitor Street.
The project will include rehabilitating the I-376 travel lanes, realigning and reconfiguring all interchange ramps, and constructing bridges and retaining walls. The reconfiguration and rehabilitation of Beechwood Boulevard, Forward Avenue, and Monitor Street will include improvements to intersection safety and operations through the addition of traffic signals and a roundabout, with consideration for all roadway users by upgrading sidewalks, bicycle facilities, and transit stops. The project will not include capacity upgrades to the Squirrel Hill Tunnel.
The I-376 Parkway East – Squirrel Hill Interchange Improvement Project aims to improve interchange operations, accommodate current and future traffic demands, and reduce the potential for crashes at the interchange ramps and along Beechwood Boulevard.
The project is tentatively slated to start construction in early 2029.
