The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is currently undergoing engineering efforts to replace the existing bridge on Route 1014 over Westcolang Creek in Lackawaxen Township, Pike County. The purpose of the project is to provide a sustainable crossing over Westcolang Creek that provides a two- lane bridge, addresses the structural deficiencies, and provides continued access to local residents, businesses, and emergency services.

The existing structure is a single-span, 27-foot-long concrete adjacent box beam bridge carrying two lanes of traffic with a curb-to-curb width of 22.3 feet. The overall width of the bridge is 24.4 feet. There are no sidewalks on the bridge. The proposed design concept was developed through various efforts including, but not limited to, line and grade plans, environmental clearances, surveying, geotechnical analyses, traffic planning, utility verification and relocation plans, Right-of-Way (ROW) plans.

Additional Project Information

This bridge replacement project aims to improve safety and reliability in the project area by addressing structural deficiencies and features of the bridge. It seeks to mitigate traffic disruptions and enhance the roadway for all users. Additionally, the project exemplifies PennDOT’s goals of providing safe and sustainable transportation infrastructure across the Commonwealth.

The project is currently in the preliminary engineering phase.
