Interstate 79 Southbound Closed in Crawford County

Speed Restrictions Updated on Interstates in Northwest Region

The southbound lanes of Interstate 79 are closed in Crawford County from Exit 156 (Route 198, Saegertown) to Exit 165 (Route 6N, Edinboro) due to a crash involving a tractor trailer.

The highway is expected to reopen later today once the scene has been cleared.

Due to the winter weather impacting the region, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has temporarily reduced the speed limit to 45 mph on all interstates in the northwest region.

Motorists who are traveling will encounter the speed limit restrictions on the following roadways:

  • Interstate 79 from Exit 116A (Interstate 80 East, Clarion) to Exit 147A (Route 6/Route 322, Meadville).
  • Interstate 80 from the Ohio state line to Exit 45 (Route 478, St. Petersburg/Emlenton).
  • Interstate 86 from the Interstate 90 interchange to the New York state line.
  • Interstate 90 from the Ohio state line to the New York state line.
  • Interstate 376 from the Interstate 80 interchange to Exit 2 (Route 18, West Middlesex).

On roadways with speed restrictions, commercial vehicles not affected by restrictions on these or other roadways must move to the right lane.

Although PennDOT crews have been treating roadways, the department’s primary goal is to keep roads passable, not completely free of ice and snow. PennDOT will continue to treat roadways throughout the storm until precipitation stops and roads are clear.

Restrictions will be communicated via variable message boards, the 511PA traveler information website at www.511PA.com and smartphone apps. Motorists can also sign up for alerts on the website.
