Project to Replace Two Bridges on East Gilmore Road in Wolf Creek Township, Mercer County to Start on April 14

A $2.6 million project to replace two bridges that carry East Gilmore Road over Wolf Creek and an unnamed tributary to East Branch Wolf Creek in Wolf Creek Township, Mercer County is scheduled to start April 14, 2025.

The bridges are located on East Gilmore Road between the intersection with Montgomery Dam Road and the intersection with Centertown Road.

Work will include removal of the existing bridges and construction of steel beam, concrete structures. The project also includes minimal paving of each side of the bridges, drainage improvements, guiderail updates, and new signs, roadway makers and roadway paint.

The bridges are 64 feet and 43 feet long and are owned by Mercer County. Both were built in 1959 and are classified as poor condition. Approximately 500 vehicles per day use both bridges on average.

Construction is expected to begin April 14, 2025, weather permitting, and is expected to be completed by December 4, 2025.

The project will require a detour, which will be posted using Route 173, Daugherty Road, and Centertown Road (Route 2009). Residences located between the bridges can be accessed by using Montgomery Dam Road, Scrubgrass Road (Route 2014), and Route 173. The detour is expected to start April 21, 2025 and be in place for six months.

The contractor is C.H.D. Enterprises Inc. of New Stanton, PA. The contract cost is $2,354,627.26, which is to be paid entirely with federal funds.
