Uniontown, PA—The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists that a superload being transported from Allegheny County, PA, to Columbiana, OH, is expected to travel through portions of Allegheny, Butler, Clarion, Indiana, Jefferson, Mercer, and Westmoreland counties today, Thursday, April 17.
The superload carries a 27’8” wide steel cone that is 136 feet long, nearly 28 feet wide, and weighs 153 tons. The load will begin traveling in Allegheny County on Routes 2037/Tri-Boro Expressway, 130, 48, 2048 North/William Penn Highway, 22, 286, 129/Alpine Village Drive, and 22 into Westmoreland County, on 119 into Indiana County and Jefferson County, then 436 and 36 to I-80 West in Brookville. It will then travel I-80 to the Ohio line.
The superload will move as a rolling slowdown using two traffic lanes, resulting in traffic stoppages and travel delays. Southern Pines Trucking, Inc. of Aliquippa, PA, will transport the load.
Drivers should remain alert for this slow-moving, two-lane operation, which may travel approximately 25-30 miles per hour, or slower as needed, and use alternate routes when possible.
