The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is informing motorists of the potential for delays beginning Thursday, March 27, in Cambria County as work resumes on Route 56 (Johnstown Expressway) Project in Richland and Stoneycreek townships and the City of Johnstown.
The contractor will be setting-up long-term traffic control devices for the eventual closure of both eastbound and westbound lanes between the Walters Avenue and Bedford Street exits, and ramp detours, which will occur later this year.
As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers.
Quaker Sales of Johnstown, Pa. is the general contractor for the two-year, $14.7 million, three-mile project, which includes the rehabilitation of the traveled roadway, replacing and upgrading of existing guiderail and drainage systems and preservation of four bridge-structures. The project is in the second of its two-year cycle with an anticipated completion date of October 2025.
