The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists to expect minor delays on U.S. Route 219 (Flight 93 Memorial Highway) in Lincoln, Quemahoning and Jenner townships, Somerset County, beginning Monday, March 31.
The project contractor, New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., New Enterprise, Pa., will implement long-term lane closures in both the northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 219 on March 31, 2025, for concrete patching, pipe cleaning and lining, and clearing and grubbing (the removal and disposal of vegetation, trash, and both natural and man-made objects from a construction site).
The work is part of a 3-year, $25 million project that includes paving, the renovation of multiple bridge-structures, and drainage, guide rail and signage upgrades along five (5) miles of U.S. 219 in Somerset County. The project’s anticipated completion date is November of 2026. The project is weather dependent.
Detours – beginning the week of April 7, 2025, and running for approximately 30 days – are planned for the renovation of two bridge-structures that cross over U.S. 219.
During the Route 4102 (Sechler Road) bridge-structure renovation, a detour will divert traffic to Route 281 to Route 4026 (Lake Road) to Route 601 (North Center Avenue) to Gilmour Road (T-861).
During the Route 4104 (Critchfield Road / T-626) bridge-structure renovation, a detour will divert traffic to Route 601 (Penn Avenue) to Route 4004 (Bicycle Road) to Morris Road (T-548).
As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers.
