Detour Set for the Northbound and Southbound Ramps of Interstate 99 at the Tyrone Interchange, Blair County, Beginning April 22

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising motorists of a detour on Interstate 99 (I-99) at the Tyrone Interchange in Blair County from Tuesday, April 22, to Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

Contractors will close the Tyrone Interchange (Exit 48) northbound I-99 on-ramp and southbound I-99 off-ramp for paving, patching, joint cleaning and sealing, guide rail updates, new signage and pavement marking.

The northbound I-99 detour route will include Route 453 to Route 4027 to Route 350, and the southbound I-99 off-ramp detour will include Route 8003 to Route 4027 to Route 453. The total detour distance is 5.9 miles.

As always, PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for direction from advanced signage and flaggers.

New Enterprise Stone and Lime, Inc., New Enterprise, Pa., is the contractor for the $23,500,000 project, which also includes improvements on I-99 from the median cross-over near Newry to 17th Street exit in Blair County. The project also includes an asphalt overlay of the road and a latex overlay on the bridge decks. The work is scheduled to be completed in September of 2025.
