The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to an in-person and virtual plans display regarding the Route 3002 (Butternut Road), Section D51 Structure Rehabilitation Project over Butternut Creek Project in Sterling Township, Wayne County.

The Route 3002-D51 project consists of rehabilitating the existing single-span reinforced concrete T-Beam bridge.

The rehabilitated Route 3002 (Butternut Road) roadway and structure will consist of two (2) 9'-0" travel lanes with two (2) 4'-0" wide shoulders for a roadway width of 26'-0".

Additional work includes, but is not limited to: approach roadway reconstruction and guide rail updates. Local access to driveways will be maintained during construction.

A detour for Route 3002 (Butternut Road) will be required to perform the proposed work. Route 3002 traffic will use a 5.4-mile detour using state and local roads, including: Route 196 (Sterling Road), Route 3003 (Spring Hill Road), Route 191 (Twin Rocks Road), and T338 (Zion Road). It is anticipated that the detour will be in place for approximately 4 weeks during construction.

The project is currently in the preliminary design phase. It is anticipated that construction will begin in the Spring of 2025 and will be complete by the Fall of 2025.

The virtual plans display will be held online and will be available from March 25, 2024 to April 8, 2024.  The public comment period is March 1 - March 31, 2024.

To view the project virtually, click on the Plans Display on the right side of this page.

The purpose of the public meeting and plans display is to introduce the project, display and describe the planned detour, and receive public input regarding questions or concerns with the project. The public is encouraged to respond to the public questionnaire and provide comments by clicking on the Public Questionnaire. If you prefer to download a printed survey form, use this (Project Questionnaire) to print a PDF questionnaire to be completed by hand and mailed to the address at the bottom of the form.
